Challenge

Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley is a local nonprofit organization that trains volunteer tutors and matches them with adults who want to learn to read, write, speak and understand English better. LVFV hosts an annual trivia bee fundraising event, and this year, they chose the far-reaching theme Bee in 3D, a tribute to B movies. They sought Cooper Hong Inc.’s help to develop A/V presentation graphics to support the emcee’s dialogue, show trivia questions and answers to the contestants.

Solution

Working on a pro-bono basis, CHI designed a fully functioning Flash-based presentation complete with animations, sounds, timers and 3D images. Animations revealed supporters’ names, team names, sponsor names, questions and answers. Trivia question answers appeared in 3D anaglyph images. Participants and audience members sported 3D glasses so they could fully appreciate the Bee in 3D artwork.

The presentation was prepared so any volunteer could run it using mouse clicks or a keyboard arrow, but the CHI graphic designer who developed the graphics set up the presentation in coordination with the venue’s A/V team and coordinated the presentation with the emcee.

Results

Participants raved about the presentation graphics, and the event was a resounding success, raising more than $18,000 for Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley. While those results were not a direct result of the A/V presentation, it did help engage competitors and audience members alike and encouraged active participation in the bee, the silent auction and the 50/50 raffle, which were also promoted within the presentation.

"CHI delivered far more than we expected. The A/V presentation was incredible. One person said that LVFV is the gold standard when it comes to trivia fundraisers. CHI's talented staff helped us earn that reputation."
